Mount Hanang, located in Tanzania’s Manyara Region near Babati town, is the country’s fourth highest mountain, standing at approximately 3,420 meters (11,220 feet). Known for its scenic landscapes, lush montane forests, and diverse wildlife, it offers trekkers a rewarding experience without the crowds of Kilimanjaro or Mount Meru.
The mountain is culturally significant to the local Iraqw people, who consider it sacred. Its trails pass through forest, grasslands, and volcanic formations, culminating in panoramic views of the Rift Valley, Lake Manyara, and even Kilimanjaro on a clear day.
Trekking Mount Hanang is suitable for moderately experienced hikers seeking adventure, nature, and cultural immersion in a serene setting. The best time to visit is during the dry season from June to October, when the trails are safer and the scenery is at its most spectacular.
