Day 1: Arusha/Moshi → Katesh → Trek to Base Camp
- Pick-up: Early morning from Arusha or Moshi hotels.
- Drive: 4–5 hours to Katesh (shorter if starting from nearby towns).
- Lunch: Hot meal before hiking.
- Hike:
- Trail through forest → bush → grasslands
- Vegetation: Protea and Erica trees, heath, and moorland
- Camp at 3,100 m / 10,170 ft
- Distance & Time: 8.5 km / 5.3 miles, 5–6 hours
- Altitude Gain: 1,300 m / 4,265 ft
- Meals: Lunch and dinner
Day 2: Base Camp → Summit → Camp
- Wake-up: 3:30 AM for summit trek (headtorch and warm clothes required).
- Hike to Summit: 2–3 hours to enjoy sunrise and panoramic views.
- Descent: Back to base camp for breakfast.
- Rest & Explore: Afternoon at camp, optional short hikes around the area.
- Meals: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Day 3: Camp → Gate → Lake Balangida → Return
- Descent: Hike down to the trailhead/gate (3–4 hours).
- Lunch: Hot meal at the gate.
- Drive: 30–60 minutes to Lake Balangida, a soda lake known for its spectacular scenery and productive ecosystem.
- Optional: Stay at the lake and visit local villages before returning to Arusha/Moshi.
