Trip Overview
Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-highest peak at 4,566 meters, is located in Arusha National Park. Known for its lush forests, diverse wildlife, and spectacular crater views, it offers a less crowded, scenic alternative to Kilimanjaro.
The trek usually takes 3–5 days, depending on your schedule, and is moderate in difficulty. It passes through montane forests, alpine meadows, and moorlands, culminating in a summit with breathtaking views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding landscape.

Details Itinerary
Day 1: Arusha – Miriakamba Hut (2,500 m)
- Activities:
- Drive from Arusha to Momella Gate (2–3 hours).
- Trek through lush forest to Miriakamba Hut.
- Distance/Time: 8 km / 4–5 hours
- Accommodation:Miriakamba Hut (camping)
- Highlights: Dense forest, wildlife (buffalo, monkeys, birds), scenic views of Momella Lakes
Day 2: Miriakamba Hut – Saddle Hut (3,570 m) – Summit (4,566 m) – Saddle Hut
- Activities:
- Trek from Miriakamba Hut to Saddle Hut (5–6 hours).
- Early night rest, then summit attempt around 1:30 AM.
- Reach summit, descend to Saddle Hut for rest.
- Distance/Time: 12–14 km / 10–12 hours (including summit)
- Accommodation: Saddle Hut (camping)
- Highlights: Summit sunrise, crater rim, Kilimanjaro views
Day 3: Saddle Hut – Miriakamba Hut – Momella Gate – Arusha
- Activities:
- Trek downhill through forest back to Momella Gate.
- Drive back to Arusha.
- Distance/Time: 8 km / 3–4 hours trekking, plus 2–3 hours drive
- Accommodation: Optional hotel in Arusha or transfer to airport
- Highlights: Scenic descent, wildlife sightings, reflection on the trek
